Brighter and Slimmer TVs made Possible Thanks to LEDs

A common complaint that was made about the main TV set in our homes in the past was how big and bulky these TVs used to be, the TV stands they sat on had to be almost industrial grade to ensure they didn’t collapse under the weight of these TV sets. But with flat screen Plasma and LCD TVs the televisions in our homes were now flatter and lightweight enough to be mounted on the wall.

In recent times there have even been newer models that can be even slimmer, in many cases under an inch in depth, and this has mainly been due to the introduction of LED TV sets that use the smaller and more space saving Light Emitting Diodes when they need to light their screens. These LEDS can be located at the side of the screen to make sure that the set is uniformly thin and even the thickest LED TVs are still a fraction of the size and weight of many Plasma and LCD TVs that are backlit by cathode ray tubes.
