Economic Stimulus Plan, Now What?

The economic stimulus plan has made some Americans no longer eligible for hundreds of dollars a month in food stamps. What kind of plan do you call that?

Under the economic recovery plan, laid-off workers have seen a $25 weekly bump in their unemployment checks as part of a broad expansion of benefits for the poor. But the law did not raise the income cap for food stamp eligibility, so the extra money has pushed some people over the limit. Once you are over the income limit, regardless of the reason, you’re simply no longer eligible.

At one time food stamps were just papers, now it’s a debit card that people use to buy food. There is a record 32.5 million people that receive food stamps. Even though the stimulus plan gives the unemployed a whole $25 raise per week, it puts them in a bracket where they can no longer get food stamps.
