Semiconductor Sales See a New Record by up 0.4%

According to SIA recent report, the semiconductor industry sales reached USD299.5 billion in 2011, an increase of 0.4% only YoY. However it is at all-time high.
The report represents that semiconductor industry was strong at several fields like optoelectronics, sensors and actuators, as well as microprocessors in 2011. The sensors and actuators which market scale were the smallest increased to USD8 billion by 15.5%, taking the top spot in the various fields. Driven by image sensor, market scale of optoelectronics reached USD23.1 billion, an increase of 6.4%. The market scale of MOS microprocessor was just behind of Logic IC by reaching USD65.2 billion, a 7.5% increase YoY.
Brian Toohey, the CEO of SIA points out although the semiconductor industry was impacted by the earthquake in Japan, flood in Thailand and weak global economy, the industry was still strong last year.
