Indianapolis Embracing “Green” Cleaning

In 2007 Forbes.com ranked Indiana as #49 in there rankings of America’s “greenest” states. The report says that Indiana has one of the worst carbon footprints in the country and some of the worst drinking water. In the last few years Indiana has taken steps to improve its ranking and now hosts an annual “Green” expo.

Larry Medcalf, owner of Office Star Cleaning, said one of the reasons he decided to start a janitorial business was to put a twist on cleaning that most companies in the area were not offering. According to Mr. Medcalf, “Many cities on the East and West coasts are seeing a lot of green cleaning companies spring up, but here in Indiana, I think that most janitorial companies are afraid that offering only non-toxic cleaning services could hinder business.” Mr. Medcalf firmly believes that through educating consumers on “green” cleaning, they will discover the many benefits it provides.
