A short history of Denia for your Holiday Rentals in Spain

This year when booking your HOLIDAY RENTALS IN SPAIN make some time available in your schedule for a visit to the seaside resort of Denia. Situated between Alicante and Valencia, Denia is a tourist destination with some 36,000 full time residents. What is left of a fortress stands in the heart of the town but there is evidence of habitation as far back as prehistoric times along with some Iberian ruins on a nearby hill. When the Romans came to power in this area they founded a city called Dianium and in the first century Quintus Sertorius built a Roman naval base here.

During the ensuing centuries Denia was ruled by a number of different cultures including the Visigoths, Muslims and escaped Muslims slaves until the Christians defeated the Moors. The fortress in the centre of town was originally built by the Moors. Then along came the French who took control of the town for four years during the War of the Spanish Succession and re-built it in the 19th century.
