The Case for the Burka/ Hijab

T he practice of hijab among Muslim women is one based on religious doctrine, although the Qur'an does not mandate it. Instead, it comes from the Hadith of Sahih Bukhari . The Hadith, the "tradition of Mohammed," reveals the teachings of the Prophet to believers. Views are very varied amongst Muslim women, some for it and others strongly against. It is regarded by a few as freedom of movement, liberty and protection from male gazes. The veil is not an exclusive requirement by some factions of Islam as the Catholic Church also practices it in the form of Nuns. although not the whole face is covered. In most Islamic countries the Hijab is not a requirement as a lot of Muslims think it is a relic from the dark ages and there is no room for it in a modern world.
