Spanish Soccer- Barcelona Lost Two Points after Drawing against Villarreal 1-1

Current Spanish champions FC Barcelona gave up two of the three possible points in the first game of the year by drawing 1-1 against Villarreal, who dominated the midfield for most of the game. The draw came on Saturday in Barça’s home territory at Camp Nou; the crowd thronged in support of the locals, who had attained six titles in 2009. But Villarreal spoiled the evening for Barça, interrupting a run of four consecutive victories at home and taking away their first two league points. The champions opened early on thanks to a goal by Pedro, who lost no opportunity to gain coach Josep Guardiola’s confidence. In the seventh minute, the Canaries attacker annihilated Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez with an accurate shot, following a rebound from an attempt by French striker Thierry Henry that bounced off the crossbar.
