How to Identify Fake Diamonds in Antique Jewelry

When it comes to antique and vintage jewelry pieces, it is not entirely uncommon to find that the original diamond has been removed and switched with a fake one. The average shopper would not be able to distinguish between a real diamond and a lab created one, or even cubic zirconia. When the diamond in question is supposedly vintage the determination can be even more difficult. That is because truly antique diamonds were cut in a way very different than the majority of today's are, and it would take a gemologist to determine if a stone is Old European cut, Old Mine cut, or Modern Brilliance cut. That being said, there are a few tips and tricks that can help you when you come across an antique diamond.
