DvD Drive Can not Write to Writable Discs (Windows 98, ME, XP)

I got hp pavilion dv6000 laptop, problem is it is not writing dvd’s.. My dvd drive has stoppedreading and writing dvds though it is reading cds. I have tried touninstall and reboot several times. it’s out of warranty now. is thereany way to correct it. answer: Use the steps in this document to troubleshoot problems that can occur while trying to burn discs with a recordable CD or DVD drive . Start at Step 1, do not skip to other sections until Step 1 has been completed.
