While most visits to the dentist involve having your teeth cleaned by a hygienist and then examined by the doctor himself, there are many other tasks that make up a typical dental practice. Likewise, there are a number of other specialists within the practice whose jobs are just as important.
For many individuals, two trips to the dentist per year is the extent of their dental care schedule. But if you’re someone who has needed more than just a basic cleaning, you know that there is a lot more to dentistry than meets the eye.
If you’re one of these typical patients, you probably spend more time seeing a hygienist than you do the doctor himself. The hygienist serves as an assistant and handles the cleaning of patients’ teeth, the taking of x-rays and the dispensing of toothbrushes, toothpaste and other items patients often receive.
