DDR3 Will Remain as Leading DRAM Technology in the Next Three Years

The market share of DDR3, the high performance solution for CPU systems, is stable at 85-90%. It is expected that it will remain as the leading technology in the DRAM market at least for the next three years, and then it might give its way to faster next-generation technologies.

The shipments of DRAM module in 2011 will reach 808 million units, and DDR3 is expected to take 89% of the whole shipments of DRAM, which is higher than last year’s share, 67%, and 24% in 2009. DRAM module package contains DRAM chips, which are used in PCs and other electronic products. By contrast, the lower DDR2 is being phased out this year with its market share about 9%, lower than last year’s share, 29%. DDR will account for the remaining 2% of the market, down from last year’s share, 4%.
