Communicating with children can often be a daunting task. Often they seem to be on another planet and in some respects they are. Their cognitive (mental) abilities are not yet fully developed. Depending on their age they will be incapable of seeing another’s point of view, seeing all sides to a problem or will not be able to visualize abstract concepts. When talking to children it is important to remember that they are not mini adults.

For years, youngsters have been encouraged to start communicating with other children in other countries as part of a pen friend scheme. Schools will often organise them as they serve as a fantastic way for children to learn about new countries and cultures.
One of the main benefits to having a pen friend in a country such as France or Spain is that you will be able to practice your language skills by writing letters. In turn, they can write letters to you in English which will certainly help them with their grasp of what can be an incredibly difficult language to learn.
