Is Your Certified Financial Planner Doing a Good Job?

A Certified financial planner (CFP) should design an investment plan to accomplish your specific goals. They should educate you on the range of potential returns (worst case, best case) and the expected average annual return over any rolling five year period. We believe that it is not prudent to judge performance of a financial planner over a timeframe of shorter than five years unless there are some glaring issues. Glaring issues would include:

• The certified financial planner (CFP) doesn’t return your calls.
• Significant deviation in returns from your long-term plan over 5 year period or more.
• More volatility and risk than what your financial planner represented.
• Trading or moves that don’t make sense and/or can’t be explained when questioned.

Keep in mind that just because you plan to invest money with a financial planner for at least five years doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t ask questions along the way....Read More >>
