US Immigration, a burning issue for US Citizens with family in the Philippines

The steps involved in the petitioning for a US immigrant visa can be very complicated. If your case is simple with no questionable items involved, you may be able to do it yourself. However, there are many detailed laws, regulations, procedures and practices which are frequently revised. To make matters even more confusing, many different US government agencies often get involved in the process. They may include the US Embassy, US Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), US Department of State, US Department of Labor, among others.
It hurts us when we see persons in our office who have attempted to file a US visa or immigration petition paying some "freelancer" or maybe a travel agency to do it for them, (hey, they are the experts because they do tourist visas). They have often paid thousands as up-front payments, only to see their petitions or applications denied.
