New President of AFC Has Now Been Announced

Beijing time early morning of May 31, 2011, after political struggle within FIFA turns white-hot and President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Mohammed bin Hammam has been indefinitely suspended by FIFA's ethics committee, a formal statement on AFC official website announces that the current First Vice-President of AFC, Chinese official Zhang Jilong, will serve as Acting President of AFC.

Zhang Jilong, born in Yantai City Shandong Province China in February 1952, is the First Vice-President of AFC, Chairman of the AFC financial and market development committee, Chairman of Sports Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and executive member of OCA. He joined the army in 1969. Then he was demobilized to the National Sports Commission (NSC) in 1972 and chosen to study in English Department in Beijing International Studies University (BISU). After graduation in 1975 he returned to work with foreign affairs in the International Department of NSC.
