The Role of the Citizens Advice Bureau

Nearly everyone will be familiar with the work of the Citizens Advice Bureau. It is a good place to start for citizens debt advice and there are branches in nearly every town and city in the UK. The Citizens Advice Bureau works in a similar way to the Debt Advice Group, in that anyone with debt problems can go there for independent advice and be pointed in the direction of practical solutions for their particular problem.

It is important that you obtain independent advice from an organisation like the Citizens Advice Bureau or the Debt Advice Group. You will not be obliged to follow any of their recommendations and the advisors will not try to steer you in the direction of any particular bank or lender. An option that is available to anyone with a serious amount of debt is an IVA (Individual Voluntary Agreement) or Scottish Trust Deeds, the Scottish equivalent.
