When to take an Amazon Cruise Vacation

The Amazon River, located throughout a few countries in South America, basically has two main seasons. Each season has its pluses and minuses, but no one season should be discounted. And if you’re thinking that you’ll plan a trip during a dry spell, guess again. With over 200 rainy days, you’re more than likely to get caught in at least one downpour.
The high water season
This season basically runs from the months of December through May, which is considered the winter and spring season in the Amazon area. But even though it’s “winter,” that doesn’t mean cooler temperatures (average is still a warm 86 degrees). What it means is more rain and therefore greater humidity. And with the increased rain, there will be higher water levels in the Amazon. That means a greater number of rivers and streams that might normally be dry are easily navigable. In other words, you’ll have better access to the depths of the Amazon rain forest where you’ll come in contact with some of the most amazing creatures on the planet.
A disadvantage during this time of year is that day hikes might be more limited due to the relentless rain. And the number of mosquitoes greatly increases.
The low water season
The low water season starts around June and ends in late November. Temperatures are high (almost 100 degrees on average) but there is less rain. However, it still does rain in case you’re looking for a rain-free trip. Hikes won’t be disrupted as much and there is more ability to trek through the back jungle. However, since it rains less, the rivers and streams that are usually traveled on during the high season are no longer accessible.
Choosing the right time of year
If you prefer more hiking, then book an Amazon cruise from June to November. But if you prefer cruising the inner depths of the Amazon Rain forest, then book a trip from December through May.
Cruise deals make unaffordable cruise vacations affordable. And with meals, activities and entertainment included, it can mean real savings.

Cruising the rivers of the world is a bit different than cruising the open seas. Cruising the rivers requires that the vessels are small enough to navigate the shallower and narrower waterways.
